When you have little ones, the right park can make or break an outing. A good fence, some shade and play equipment sized for small hands turn a quick stop into a happy hour or two, while the wrong choice can end in tears before you have even unpacked the pram. To save you the trial and error, here are our favourite parks and playgrounds for the under-5s near our Minto and St Andrews centres.

Kids Park, Minto

True to its name, this is a lovely one for the littlest members of the family. The playground is friendly and approachable for toddlers finding their feet, there is open space for a wobbly run, and the undercover tables mean you have somewhere shady for a snack or a nappy change. Being so close to home makes it an easy win for a morning play without a big outing attached.

Campbelltown Billabong Parklands

A firm favourite across the Macarthur area, and a great all-rounder for families with kids of different ages. The water play is a drawcard in the warmer months, and there is plenty of grass for a picnic, a kick of the ball or simply letting the little ones toddle about. Arrive early on hot days to nab a shady spot, and pack a change of clothes because the water is hard to resist.

Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan

The adventure playground here is a genuine hit with preschoolers, and the wide open lawns give little legs all the room they need to roam. It is a wonderful spot to combine active play with a gentle nature wander, and there are quiet corners for a picnic when everyone needs to reset. Make a morning of it and let the kids explore at their own pace.

A Local Pocket Park

Not every outing needs to be a production. Some of the best play happens right around the corner, and the St Andrews and nearby Raby area has quiet pocket parks that are perfect for a low-key, walkable visit. They are ideal for those afternoons when you just want to get out of the house for a bit without loading everyone into the car. Keep an eye out for the little green spaces close to home, they are often the ones you return to most.

Outdoor play is close to our hearts at Kids College. Getting outside is wonderful for little ones, building everything from balance and confidence to a love of the world around them, and we always enjoy pointing our families towards the best local spots.
